Takamatsu city in Kagawa Prefecture is located on the shore of the Seto Inland Sea. Recently it has been under attack by roaming wild boars coming from the sea.
Yesterday, a video of a boar swimming in the sea was shown by a local TV channel.
The prefecture authorities assume that the boar came from one of the smaller coastal islands. It might had been looking for food, but got frightened by stray dogs or cars and ran into the sea, Japanese daily Mainichi Simbun quotes the authorities as saying.
At the end of October a huge female boar appeared in the city. It bit passers-by before being hit by a suburban train.
Local Marine Safety Department issued a warning which recommends citizens to “leave the coastline without panic” if they spot a boar “swimming recklessly across the sea.”
